Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Star Comms collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Star Comms Discord bot, desktop client, mobile control app, Linux client, website, backend, and related services.

Star Comms is owned and operated by Star-Comms LLC.

Star Comms is designed to collect the minimum data needed to authenticate users with Discord, verify server membership and roles, configure radio nets, and route live push-to-talk audio. Star Comms does not sell personal data, does not use message content or voice audio to train AI models, and does not intentionally record or store voice audio.

1. Information We Collect

Discord account information

When you link Discord, Star Comms requests Discord OAuth scopes needed to identify you and list your Discord servers. Star Comms may receive Discord user ID, username, display name, global name, avatar identifier, guild/server IDs and names, and guild membership or role information needed to determine access.

Discord server configuration

When authorized users configure the bot, Star Comms may store Discord guild/server ID and server name, command channel ID, admin role IDs, Squad Leader role IDs, commander role IDs where configured, radio net IDs and names, operation status, and org flair/theme metadata where enabled.

User assignment and operation data

During operation use, Star Comms may process user IDs and display names for connected clients, net assignments, push-to-talk state events, connection status, packet counters, dropped packet counters, queued packet counters, and codec metadata.

Voice audio

When you press push-to-talk, the client captures microphone audio, encodes it, and sends audio packets to the Star Comms backend. The backend relays those packets to other connected users assigned to the correct radio net. Star Comms is designed to relay live audio packets only and does not intentionally record, transcribe, or permanently store voice audio.

Client-local settings

The Star Comms client may store settings locally on your device, including server URL, session token, selected Discord server, audio device choices, keybinds, channel volume and routing settings, chirp/static/overlay/priority channel settings, and theme settings. These settings generally remain local unless needed for normal operation, troubleshooting, or synchronization.

Logs and diagnostics

Star Comms may generate logs for troubleshooting, abuse prevention, crash analysis, and service reliability. Logs may include timestamps, guild IDs, user IDs, display names, client version, connection state, error messages, audio routing counters, IP address, and user agent information that may appear in ordinary server or network logs.

2. How We Use Information

Star Comms uses information to authenticate users through Discord, show users only Star Comms-enabled Discord servers they can access, verify guild membership and role permissions, operate radio nets, route live push-to-talk audio, provide admin controls, prevent unauthorized access and abuse, debug service issues, publish updates, and maintain security and reliability.

3. How We Share Information

Star Comms may share or transmit information with Discord when using OAuth and Discord API requests, with hosting and infrastructure providers that help operate the service, with authorized Star Comms admins or Squad Leaders in the same Discord server where the admin UI displays connected users and net status, and when required by law or security needs. Star Comms does not sell personal data.

4. Retention

Star Comms keeps information only as long as needed. One-time desktop links are short-lived. Session tokens normally expire after a limited period. Guild configuration and net assignments may remain until changed, removed, or deletion is requested. Audit and diagnostic data may be retained for troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and reliability. Local client settings remain on your device until you clear them, uninstall the client, or remove app data.

5. Deletion and Access Requests

You may request deletion of Star Comms data associated with your Discord user ID or Discord server by contacting Star Comms support. Include enough information to identify the relevant Discord user ID or guild/server ID. Do not send passwords, Discord tokens, government IDs, payment details, or other sensitive information.

6. Security

Star Comms uses reasonable safeguards for the scale and nature of the service, including HTTPS/WSS transport where configured, signed session tokens, role-based access checks, and limited Discord OAuth scopes. No online service is perfectly secure. You are responsible for keeping your Discord account, devices, and local Star Comms installation secure.

7. Children

Star Comms is intended for users who are old enough to use Discord under Discord's Terms of Service and applicable law. Star Comms is not directed to children under 13.

8. International Use

Star Comms may be operated from or hosted in the United States, and your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where service providers operate.

9. Your Choices

You can stop using Star Comms, log out of the client, remove the bot from a Discord server you administer, revoke application access through Discord account settings, delete local Star Comms app data from your device, or request deletion of server-side data.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Updated versions will be posted on the Star Comms website or repository. Continued use of Star Comms after an update means you accept the updated policy.
